Team Caps: Fitted, Stretch-Fit or Adjustable

Most team caps share the same base: a structured six-panel crown with a firm front that holds the logo upright, a mid-profile fit and a pre-curved bill. The big decision is the back.

Fit How it sizes Best for Trade-off
Adjustable (snap or hook-and-loop) One size covers a range Rec leagues, youth teams, fans Open back, less of a pro look
Stretch-fit Banded sizes like S/M and L/XL Travel teams that want a closed back with easy sizing Two or three sizes to collect
True fitted Exact eighth-inch sizes High school, travel and adult teams that want the pro look Every player needs a measurement

Adjustable caps are the simplest choice for young players who are still growing, because one cap can last a whole season and get passed down. Closed-back caps look sharper in team photos. If your roster wants that pro look, our fitted team caps page has a full size chart and measuring tips.

Youth and Adult Sizing for Every Roster

Kids' heads vary more than their ages suggest, so treat this as a rough guide and measure when you can:

Player Typical head size What usually fits
T-ball and younger About 19 to 20 in Small youth caps
Youth (roughly 7 to 12) About 20 to 21.5 in Youth adjustable or youth stretch-fit; fitted 6 3/8 to 6 7/8
Teens and adults About 21.5 to 24 in and up Adult adjustable, stretch-fit or fitted 6 7/8 and up

To measure, wrap a soft tape around the head across the mid-forehead and just above the ears. Divide the inches by 3.14 for a fitted size. Older 12U and 14U players often need adult caps, so ask families to measure rather than guess. When we build youth custom baseball hats, the logo is scaled to the smaller crown instead of being shrunk at the last minute. For the littlest players, browse hats for younger kids.

Tip: collect sizes in the same spreadsheet as names and numbers, and add one or two spares for late signups.

Softball and Rec-League Team Hats

Softball has its own needs. Fastpitch players often want an adjustable back with room for a ponytail, and many prefer a visor, which we carry alongside caps. Slowpitch, church, company and adult rec teams usually go casual: adjustable caps or mesh-back truckers with a branded sponsor or bar name on the front.

For Central Florida summer ball, fabric matters. Performance polyester wicks sweat and dries fast through doubleheaders, while classic cotton twill feels softer and looks traditional. Lighter colors stay cooler in the sun, and white or gray caps show dark thread clearly.

Embroidered Logos, Printed Numbers and Personalized Player Names

Embroidery is the standard for branded team caps because it survives a season of sweat, dirt and dugout floors. A typical layout:

Placement About Use
Front Up to 2.25 in tall Team logo, letter or mascot
Left side About 1.5 in tall Player number (printed caps only)
Right side About 2 in square League mark, year or flag
Back, above the closure About 1 in letters Player name or team motto

Each player's cap can carry a personalized name, plus a number on printed caps, which makes the hat feel like real team gear and helps kids find their own in a dugout pile. Keep team colors to two or three threads for the cleanest result, and make sure thin outlines are at least about a millimeter wide so they hold up. For a bold front letter, 3D puff embroidery raises the stitching for a pro, on-field look.

Embroidery carries a one-time $35 digitizing fee per design, and once it's paid you can download the stitch file from your account. Embroidered, PVC and leather patches are other options, and an embroidered patch is a neat way to add a tournament or league badge. See our embroidered baseball caps for more stitch styles.

Design the Cap Online or Request a Bulk Quote for 100+ Pieces

  1. Pick the cap and color. Match your uniform, or ask us to suggest a blank.
  2. Send your logo. SVG or PDF files are best; high-resolution PNG and JPG files are accepted, and AI and EPS files can be sent with a bulk quote. No logo yet? A sketch works, and we can rebuild simple artwork.
  3. Choose placements. Front, sides and back.
  4. Send the roster. One list with each player's name, number and size.
  5. Approve your mockup. See it in our 3D Custom Designer, or get a free mockup with a bulk quote for 100+ pieces.

You can design it in our 3D Custom Designer, or request a bulk quote for 100+ pieces and get a free mockup with unlimited revisions. Coaches and team parents can share the mockup with the league before approving.

Sponsors, Coaches and Fans Get Branded Caps Too

Orders for custom team hats rarely stop at the players.

  • Coaches: the same logo in a reverse colorway, or "Coach" across the back, sets staff apart.
  • Sponsors: a small branded sponsor mark on the back or side thanks the business that paid for uniforms, and a few sponsor caps make a good thank-you gift.
  • Parents and fans: adjustable caps in team colors are an easy fundraiser and help the stands look like a home crowd.

The same branded logo works across the whole uniform. Add matching team tees; DTF has no setup fee, and screen printing is available on orders of 100+ pieces through our team. For early-season night games and spring tournaments, add dugout hoodies for cold games.

Season Deadlines and Volume Pricing for Leagues

Work backward from the date that matters: opening day, picture day or the first tournament. Collect sizes and the roster, send the logo, and approve the mockup as early as possible, since proofing is the step that most often slows an order. Tell us your in-hand date when you request a quote. If the season sneaks up on you, rush orders are available, and the rush fee is quoted with your order.

Setup costs are one-time and easy to plan:

  • One team, one logo: $35 digitizing, paid once and shared across the whole roster, youth and adult caps alike.
  • A league with one shared logo: still $35 once, no matter how many teams.
  • A league where every team has its own logo: $35 per team design, once. Next season's reorders skip it, because the files are saved to your account.

Beyond setup, the price per cap depends on quantity, the blank, stitch count, thread colors and the number of placements. Leagues ordering custom baseball hats for teams across a whole division can ask for volume pricing with their mockup. There's no minimum, so you can also order a single replacement cap mid-season. Live prices for each cap are on the product pages. Every order can ship anywhere in the US, or Orlando-metro leagues can pick up at our Orlando-area warehouse.

Caring for Game Caps

Spot-clean with cold water, mild detergent and a soft brush, then air-dry on a rolled towel or a ball. Skip the washer, dryer and a hot dashboard, since heat can warp the bill and pucker stitching.

Frequently Asked Questions

What hats do baseball teams wear?

Most teams wear a structured six-panel, mid-profile cap with a pre-curved bill. Travel, high school and adult teams often choose fitted or stretch-fit caps for a closed back, while youth and rec leagues favor adjustable caps. For a side-by-side look at styles, read about the best caps for team logos.

Can I get youth sizes for my team?

Yes. Youth caps have a smaller, shallower crown, typically fitting about 20 to 21.5 inches around, and we scale the logo to fit. Many teams order youth and adult sizes together, since older players often need adult caps. Measure each player when you can.

Can each player's hat have a different number or name?

Yes. Send one list with each player's name, number and size, and we'll proof every personalized version before stitching. Numbers (on printed caps) usually go on the left side and names across the back above the closure, though you can choose other placements.

How long does a team hat order take?

It depends on quantity, the decoration, and how quickly you approve your mockup. Tell us your in-hand date, such as opening day or picture day, when you request a quote. Rush orders are available for tight season deadlines, and the rush fee is quoted with your order.

Do you make custom softball hats?

Yes. Softball teams get the same logo, number and name options as baseball, with adjustable backs that leave room for a ponytail. Fastpitch players who prefer visors can order them alongside caps. Rec and slowpitch teams often choose mesh-back truckers for comfort in the heat.
